Going through old old old old stuff of old users off RWAM

LOL OOPS i uh... for some reason, didn't bookmark it or, i think my pc might have wiped sometime after i made this post. (and i didnt come back to it) uhhmm.... theres not really a link to it anymore because it's dead and doesn't exist, but it's on archive.org, you have to pick a date and then go through it all manually, theres not much preserved unfortunately, but i did find some funny stuff. heres one of the most recent links, i might go back through again for more web trawling, some of the users are very funny, some of their profile pages got preserved and some of them have viable links.

(this goes back INCREDIBLY FAR with INCREDIBLE amounts of randomly archived things, in the case of the oldest archived post to about 2003, threads are scarcely preserved for some reason, along with user profiles, but you can find some of those sometimes that have links that can sometimes lead you to modern profiles! i found a handful of DA links)

just a note, you can post ANYTHING in this thread as long as the admin/site owner is okay with it (eg; follows rules) i have been posting some CROPPED ship art in here for funny Zim's

(disclaimer: but probably do NOT link to those, i would say as general. if it's not ship art / an account that posted ship art and it's posted somewhere like DA, maybe use the DA image link so when you click the image it takes you to the account?) you kind of have to tread lightly with this stuff, if i don't credit something in this thread it's either bc it's cropped ship art or the OP is a person that ships the disgusting stuff or is a bad person in general. or i was like. afraid it might be.

sorry for the long post, and, happy skimming! it gets very boring very quickly, the stuff in this thread i posted over the span of trawling for like, a whole day. definitely a "do in your spare time sparringly" type of thing. 

as another note, i've been skimming and saving tons and tons of crap off RWAM and saving it to a flashdrive and on another computer, the desktop mascots, winamp skins, shimeji's.... i consider these high value along with the trash like the weird ass jthm mario parody game and the piolet episode and stuff. if you find some "high value" thing (or you want to have it preserved) let me know and link me to it and i'll pop it in my 768475th google drive!

YEs!! Any archiving data is good data! I want to form an entire discipline of history or sociology around IZ fandom history, because even though it's a trash fire most of the time, it's so interesting.

RWAM has a metric shit ton of trashy hateful users, i think it might have been unmoderated at some point. (around 2006-ish) and then devolved into a hellscape of edginess about drugs, s*x, shipping, hatecrimes, and wanting to kill gay people and (n word plural here) and plenty of other devolved caveman type edgy 12yr olds talking to adults in the early 2000s with unsupervised internet (on an unmoderated or loosely moderated forum) type of drivel. so extremely fair warning about that type of content.

edit ramble:the IZ canon (show) takes place in the early 2000s (when it was made) so just viewing that content at all is interesting to see even if it's terrible, when Vista was king and such, it makes me think "did Dib see things like this while he was doing all his research in the show? was he one of those kids?" and such things. i for one... was like, 2 when IZ first came out. so i didn't "live through" the early 2000s like everyone else got to who was like. 10 at the time (or older) and whos parents could afford a computer, internet, and left them unsupervised. i didn't have an E-mail until 3rd grade, and, that was a SCHOOL ASSIGNMENT along with engaging with some kind of school related forum to learn how to use the internet.

I luckily didn't get internet access until I was 10, and even then it was moderated (sort of ) but I will say I saw things on the internet (especially in Middle School when I didn't have the self-preservation instincts to know when enough was enough) that I wouldn't even tell my therapist about. No one else needs to know that those kinds of horrors exist.

I don't know why people demonize moderation on the internet. Done correctly, it can enhance your internet experience.
