Zim making weird af noises might even prove that to a degree.

So hey lets talk about smeets and how they're made.
Are they like some kind of DNA jelly that gets shot into a holding tube for solidifying before they get into tanks? Are smeets bouncy and resilient?
Smeets are adorable, but deadly. I want 50.

I want 50. i've always kind of imagined giant vats of DNA jelly that get all mixed together to create randomized smeets, idk y. also smeets are indestructable (possibly even more so than their adult counterparts. )

I want 50. i have worldbuilding brainworms so i think about the mechanisms behind how the empire works a lot... i hc a zygote is synthesized via some complex biochemical process in vats, and at a certain stage of development the embryo is extracted and put into a tube for more intensive growth. smeets are basically created in "batches" with genetic blueprints designed by the brains, optimized for whatever purpose the batch is for. i dont think irkens themselves would bother with playing a hand in the complex process of designing a biological organism, mostly bc in real life DNA is really wacky and weird, so it'd probably make sense to relegate that task to supercomputers who can process insane amounts of data and use the collective memory of everyone whos ever had a PAK to make the call on what traits a smeet gets and smeets... i like to think theyre chaotic little creachers... little men bent on biting everything. probably not as resilient as an adult irken but definitely self sufficient enough to a degree that the "parental" (lol) process doesn't really require intense individual attention

Nobody has posted in here for over a week, but I still thought I would throw my hat in the ring as it were. :-)
A lot of the things I have been thinking about lately regarding Irken biology is the extent of their nature made biological features and what could’ve been scientifically modified.
I’m not willing to rule out the possibility that Irkens are their Paks and had infiltrated another species many years ago to use their bodies or had possibly made their bodies from scratch. There’s something about how they’re incapable of reproducing without cloning and that the cloned bodies are lifeless husks without their Paks, which is pointing to something that I can’t understand.
However, the Irkens also seem to be fighting against their biological urges, which could mean that they are a species that are trying to modify themselves for their own goals. As implied by Zim, a "defective trait" is the ability to feel love. Zim is a known defective and I think that he is capable of feeling love, even if he does deny it. The most obvious example is that his first words were literally “I love you”. Love is an inherent quality in many species to ensure the survival of the next generation. But what the hell am I trying to say? Irkens do feel love, but they attempted to program it out of themselves because they no longer saw it as necessary. “Defective traits” in Irkens are behaviors that they originally had with some exceptions.
I also think that Irkens had modified themselves to be more durable, which could explain why Irkens can take significant damage without long-term consequences despite having fragile-looking bodies. Another scientifically made change is noises made by their Paks. In many cases, noises made from Paks indicate something very dire such as a part inside of it that is failing. However, the most common and least severe Pak noise is an internal cooling fan. This fan goes off when the Irken has over-exerted themselves. A defective Irken has the most noise coming from their Pak with Zim’s being the one with the most error noises.
A Pak converts foods that an Irken eats into nutrients and can stretch these nutrients for a very long time. For this reason, an Irken doesn’t need to eat as much as they do, and this excess is for a cultural reason. Irkens see eating for the purpose of enjoying it as a luxury, which is why we see the Tallests eat so much. I also like to think that Irkens have their own “snacking culture” where they have a set of unofficial social rules in regard to eating. The one that I can think of at the top of my head is that claiming food is very serious business. Unless the Irken taking the food highly outranks the Irken they are stealing from, this is a huge no no.
I do like to think that some pre-empire qualities were left behind, though it may be because I think it’s very flavorful to do that. I like to base a lot of these headcanons off of insects, specifically bees. This is mostly because of a post on Tumblr that made a very interesting comparison between the Irken organ and the organs of bees. For example, the height hierarchy may exist because the Irkens had their equivalent of a “queen bee” in ancient times. These very large kinds of Irkens could’ve taken the throne with brute force due to most Irkens being so small. This may be why there are height anomalies like the Tallests or Sizzlorr; there might be some “queen bee” genetics in their gene pool. I’m also a part of the party that thinks that Irkens make bug noises. I like to think that the noises are involuntary such as a cicada sounding “soothing noise” that was a leftover from a time when Irkens raised their smeets. Cicadas don’t make that rattling noise to soothe their young, and it’s solely because I think that it’s relaxing. In a similar vein, in a movement where Irkens especially have a hive-like comradery, they make a buzzing “bonding noise”. Once again, it’s because of what I associate with the sound. The idea of Irkens accomplishing something as a team and buzzing together warms my heart.
Some other ideas that I have is that Irkens were originally a species that dwelled in underground caves, which is why smeeteries are underneath Irk. Due to their origins, Irkens can also see very well in the dark. This is why Irkens also see themselves as a collective where each Irken must fulfill a purpose.
What do you all think?

There's a really interesting idea I forgot from my first post because I made it late at night! TW DRUGS Irkens have drugs, but they're not ingestible. They come in the form of cartridges that are inserted into the Pak and they impact how the brain inside of it functions. There are kinds that can cause the brain to produce relaxing chemicals (a weed-like depressant) or make them work harder (stimulants like the illegal "study drugs" that are used by college students) or even ones that make simulations seem real (hallucinogens). These drugs are outlawed because they can have bad lasting effects on the Pak, but an Irken can find them if they know where to look.
