ok so like... we all know iz was cancelled bc it was unpopular but i think its good to analyze things from a business and cultural perspective too like
in 2001-2002 ppl were kneejerk reacting to anything that could be considered a potential influence on school shootings- esp edgy media. doom, pretty much all metal music, whatever violent media was popular that week, even goddamn superhero comics; all of that was really moralized by the media and seen as a bad influence on teenagers, even if it wasnt really aimed at that age demographic or children in general in the first place.
so like. i think nickelodeon saw the combination of that moral panic bullshit and the fact that iz was kind of bleeding money bc of its production methods, and was like "yeah no this thing is a ticking time bomb of bad press"
i think now that we have a more nuanced understanding of violent/edgy media and what really causes kids to be Like That, that like... itd probably have run on for at least another season. and i think that if iz got a chance to make another season *now* itd be vastly different in tone- mostly leaning into the nihilist humor rather than the "wow this guy ripped out a kids eyeballs! thats messed up!" shit. not bc s&p is more rigid nowadays, cartoons can still be pretty violent, but just bc everyones tastes have changed. the iz comics kind of show that
