[Continued CW: Implied abuse of the dead, war-time practices]
Not to be morbid or anything that is! i was just wondering, all of a sudden, while making a beaded cuff bracelet... what do they do to irkens that have passed away? do they have any sorts of special rituals? i don't expect they do anything too elaborate, they more than likely might do something akin to cremation and then possibly a burial of the ashes? (if you want to be very technical about it, they might just recover paks and then launch them into a sun, even. that seems more their speed, honestly.) abandoning their dead makes a lot of sense too, too much to do. maybe recover the sir units and repack them for other irkens....maybe the paks if they're intact enough.
But i was wondering if there might be anything... interesting they do, like after recovering paks if they go over the data? if the pak is intact and it was a highly ranked irken, could they possibly just shove it in a new body and start them over?
What happens when a tallest is killed, or possibly dies of natural causes (somehow).
Or, even, what if a tallest fakes their death or something?
[if you find this post too much to interact with, let me know and i will woosh it away into the void.]

here's my personal worldbuilding headcanons on the process of death and handling the deceased in irken society:
PAK is recovered and removed from the deceased's body, data is processed by the nearest control brain (or terminal with a link to the control brain system). all relevant data to the death of the individual is extracted and examined both by the control brains and morticians, and an obituary- usually a short note on cause of death- is released on the public archives to be read by any party that wishes to access it. more detailed accounts might require higher ranking depending on external circumstances. in the case a PAK cannot be recovered, nor the body (the PAK can reattach in emergency situations) the individual is listed as "missing in action."
as for what is done with the body, i think it's recycled- which can mean things from using it for medical training or just throwing it into a meat grinder and putting it through chemical processing to return it to an automated biosphere (thats a whole nother list of lore lol)
in my lore, the death of tallest miyuki has a lot of conspiracy theories, especially since the control brains immediately released an obituary despite the fact that her body nor PAK was publicly recovered. many irkens believe that she faked her own death to escape the control brains' influence, and some even think that she was assassinated for her political views (namely that a tallest should be more of an absolute authority than they already are)
