I wonder if recoding an irken a bunch of times has negative effects Recording an Irken? Re-encoding, I think. And yes, I think it does have negative effects, similar to what happens when someone gets struck by lightning too many times or has too much electroshock therapy. Also, Zim's PAK is basically a giant lightning rod. RIP him if he ever steps outside before a storm.

Also, Zim's PAK is basically a giant lightning rod. RIP him if he ever steps outside before a storm. Oh, I misread! I mean, Zim got re-encoded several times and look at him. There was this really good post about re-encoding that I can't find where the op is talking about how Zim is constantly combining the objectives of his previous jobs (creating and destroying), which is what is leading to his mission plans being so nonsensical. I like the idea that an encoded Irken is unable to switch the objectives of their previous job and doing it a bunch of times leads to their current job being incredibly difficult because of that. Edit: Now I remember why I can't find it. It's because the post was made by covert ZaDr shipper, Dana-chan, and I blocked her after finding out. Still stealing the idea though.

Honestly, one of the worst parts about being Defective is that you are made that way by something you have no control over (the quality of your PAK data at birth, whether your PAK gets damaged or broken), and you are aware of it (remember, Zim correctly identified his PAK had 40 schmillion mistakes just a few minutes after he was born), and that you can't do anything about it. That's some underutilized horror right there.
You could be the best Irken alive, and the Control Brains will still kill you over some bad code.
Not only that, but Irken Society and the Control Brains think so little of Defectives and think that their mere existence is such an insult that they subject Defectives to a public trial and eternal humiliation instead of just evaluating them and making them disappear quietly.

Zim probably knows how to sew. He probably needed to hem and make adjustments to his uniforms, because not only is he tiny, I headcanon him as having really weird proportions so nothing really fits him unless he modifies it.

Imagine him repairing GIR's little doggy suit. I'M MELTING IT'S TOO CUTE!!!

The Irken Armada following the Massive into the Florpus Hole was thematically the same as ants getting stuck in an ant spiral.
Computer, play "Spiral of Ants" by Lemon Demon.

Since we're having Zim takes this fine day, I'm obsessed with the idea that Zim is a heroic figure for defective and short Irkens who want to change the Empire. It sounds weird but hear me out on this: Zim actively fights against the idea that he needs to be short to be an invader, even arguing against his tall superiors. It would also be painfully ironic that the character who is the most bootlicking Irken alive is also the one being upheld for fighting against the system the most. Zim would hate all of the people hailing him as a hero once he finds out the reason. He'd see the think pieces about him and be horrified because people think he hates his Tallests and superiors.

Oh, I love this. I'd also argue that Bob and Skoodge could fill the same roles, but Skoodge is kind of neutral on the Tallest and just disappeared after Hobo-13, before people could idolize him, and Bob is bitter and disabled (in my headcanon anyway), and neither of them are as charismatic as Zim or fit Irken beauty standards as well and were given (presumably fatal, very public) punishments for not acting as short Irkens should.
