i really like the dark crystal (both the movie and the series) and avatar (the blue one) despite both their status as visual spectacle over substance...
the dark crystal is cool because puppets are cool and also the lore of it is legit epic? also the technical challenges of using puppets for everything makes you appreciate it a lot more. i watch it every now and again and try to identify what kind of practical effects they used for a shot. i also think that gelflings are pretty cool i like weird elves
and avatar... i cant really defend james camerons direction choices, he genuinely sucks ass. the people working on the film's lore, visuals, music, and other art had like genuine passion for it and then like. it gets reduced to ponytail sex and native american stereotypes because of course thats all western audiences want in a movie. i wish that it wasnt as forgettable as it was because it had legit promise!! and everyone reduces it to "that movie that used papyrus font in its posters" and shit its literally a tragedy how that movie was produced
(EDIT) AS FOR obscure stuff... uh... i dont really have a lot of obscure interests i like things that were popular 10 years ago that nobody seems to care about anymore. i think its fun to go delving into what was popular after the fact because you can like sift thru old websites and files like an archaeologist and also you don't have to hear about the drama unless youre looking for it. i think theres a specific subset of early internet drama thats really funny to look back on tho

Does anyone in here have a random obscure media that you really like? Or just something that isn't very popular for whatever reason? i can't think of anything really... obscure that i like thats not like, old cartoons and stuff (or now defunct websites, or, well, invader zim....) other than these little chinese digital pets... i had to go like, internet detective to figure out what it is / what it's from. It's called "Nana moon" and it's a chinese anime about a girl named Keke (pronounced Coco) who like, ends up on the moon where she thinks she finds stuffed animals but they're like, "magic elves" (yes seriously i thought it was a mistranslation) and shes the "chosen one" that has to find the "7 magical treasures" and i think the digital pets came out at the same time as the anime as like, a tie in...? but i know literally nothing about it other than they're SUPER FREAKING ADORABLE and i collect digital pets. they have a youtube channel w/ all the episodes of the anime on it but theres no english translations anywhere unfortunately, but it's like, aimed at 5/6 yr old girls i think, so we're probably not missing out on much there tbh. the one i got was yellow w/ sunflowers but they're made to order(!!) (edit: this means they all look different) and they're actually (amazingly) not bootlegs of something. edit 2: they are not very expensive i paid $11 for mine and intend to get more. (price depends on where you buy! i got mine off amazon!) i wanted this one tho tbh (Keke isn't on this one she has a pink hat):  |

YES I DO when i was very little i was extremely into this short and obscure magical girl manga from the early 00s called Corrector Yui...it was about a girl who was TERRIBLE with computers but through a series of wacky events became a magical girl who defeats enemies inside computers and on the internet and stuff...also the internet is like , VR but you put ur whole consciousness in there...i later found out it had an anime adaptation that never got popular in the US but did have a mildly popular spanish dub... i havent seen it but i remember the manga very vividly and fondly. heres a dvd cover  |

oooh ! the most obscure thing i enjoy off the top of my mind is the secret saturdays !!! :] its an oldish cartoon network show that didnt get great runtimes or advertising but it was SUUUUPER cool! its about this kid who can control cryptids and its about . secret science  |

My favorite unpopular media is honestly Cats the Musical asjfalksfjklsf it's a pretty well known musical but a lot of people brush it off as being weird. I really think it has a lot of heart behind it, though.
As far as obscure media, I had this short anime I would watch as a kid on netflix called "Ghost Hunters" and it was super creepy at some points and genuinely horrifying but I've never met anyone else who's seen it haha.
